Hypertension is the most common preventable cause of cardiovascular disease.
In Egypt, about 26.3% of the population are hypertensives and the rates of uncontrolled hypertension and non-compliance to medical treatment are very high. Home blood pressure monitoring (HBPM) is a self-monitoring tool that can be included in the care of hypertensive patients or those who are at risk of developing hypertension. HBPM is also recommended by major guidelines. There is increasing evidence to support the benefits for patients compared with office-based monitoring. HBPM helps maintain a patient's motivation towards treatment and follow up which helps improve hypertension control rates.
